Right now, students are in unchartered territory with new online classes, and it’s a new experience for schools and teachers as well. Public and private schools are still figuring out how they are going to proceed with remote classes, assignments, assessments, and grades. AP tests will be a new length and format. The SAT and ACT have been postponed, and many colleges are now making those tests optional.
In order to help with some of the unknowns right now, I’m creating a very flexible tutoring schedule. In the past, my tutoring sessions have been set weekly sessions, with a standard length of fifty minutes.
For this time period, I’m offering different length remote sessions. I still offer normal, fifty minute sessions weekly (remotely for now, via FaceTime or Skype).
But I’m also offering a different set of options: tutoring sessions in increments of 15 minutes, so we can meet remotely for 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, etc.
Shorter increments give us options. Students with remote classes might need more frequent support – homework help, daily questions, etc. – but not necessarily need full sessions. If a student is asked to do lessons on their own (from videos or posted notes) and wants to go over any material with me more frequently during the week (but for a shorter session) we can do this.
We can set the frequency and length – sessions don’t need to be weekly – and we do not need to schedule a session far in advance. I’m available for ad hoc, shorter, last-minute, sessions. We can be super flexible.
Additionally, for the rest of this school year, I am eliminating my 24 hour cancellation policy.
Finally, I know FaceTime and Skype tutoring sessions are new to some of you, but I want to let you know I have extensive experience with this kind of tutoring: I do these kinds of sessions weekly, and have been doing so for years. Additionally, I work with college students around the country remotely. Remote sessions, though most likely no one’s first choice, are very effective and can be an excellent support for students at all different times.
